Bike tour offers opportunity to view city

A great way to get some exercise this weekend and at the same time, see the sights of the community, is by taking advantage of a bike tour of Culver City on Sunday, May 20.

The Metro Bicycle Education Safety Training Program, otherwise known as BEST is offering a bicycle tour of some of the newer and lesser-known attractions in Culver City, such as the new Wende Cold War Museum. Located at the Veteran’s Armory, the museum houses artifacts and artwork from Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union from 1945 to1991.

The tour will cover a five-mile area throughout the city and beginning at the City Hall Plaza. It will also include a ride along the scenic Ballona Creek Bike Path.

Culver City has a rich history with some of the buildings dating back more than 100 years.

The Hobbit House, one of Culver City’s historical monuments, which was built by Joseph Lawrence, a former Disney artist, and Lockheed Martin aircraft designer will be one of the stops on the tour.

An opportunity to enjoy some lunch or a snack at Jackson Market and Deli is planned as well, so don’t forget to bring cash or a credit card.

All are welcome to attend, however, please note that children under the age of 17 years of age need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian and helmets will be required.  Training wheels will not be permitted.

The website suggests reserving a “bring my own bike” ticket.

Show up with your bicycle in good working order and don’t forget a bring along a good quality U-lock to keep your bike secure during stops.

A waiver must be signed by all who participate. The event will take place from Noon to 3 p.m. at Culver City Plaza located at 9770 Culver Blvd., Culver City.
