Adam Jason IIWII dusts off his jeans at Cinema Bar

(Nirada Phaphant and IIWII)

The bookers at the Cinema Bar do a great job of finding quality local talent, and Adam Jason IIWII is no exception. The Americana, alt-blues artist has a new album on the way called Romance and Reason With Love, so the CCN chatted with him about all of that and more…

When did you start playing and performing?

I started playing music and performing when I was nine years old, I believe I was in the fourth grade. I started out on clarinet for a year then transferred to alto saxophone. I had my first large concert performance in fifth grade for the whole school, families and staff. I will never forget that day. The whole auditorium was standing and clapping along to the song I played with my two friends. We were all playing saxophone and the song we chose to play was “Rock ‘n’ Roll Part 2”. I switched over to guitar when I turned 15 and started performing and writing my own music. I haven’t stopped since.

How would you describe your sound…

That’s always a tough one for me to answer – alternative blues, country rock with a bit of edge is the best way for me to describe it I suppose, though every song and each album I have released have and are a touch different. The style seems to evolve.

What are your career highlights so far?

Honestly, every single experience/show/album released/tours done have been eye opening in a lot of ways. I cherish them all. I have gone on seven national tours and played a handful of music festivals, The most recent one was in 2019 when I played in the SXSW Film and Music festival in Austin, TX. That was a liberating moment being there and performing.

Do you have any recorded music available?

I recorded four albums with my first band Headpeace. Since then I have 11 solo albums with number 12 soon to be released. The new album title is Romance and Reason With Love. I intend on releasing it In December.

Have you performed at Cinema Bar before? Any memories?

I have quite a few times. I don’t exactly remember how many times though.

What can we expect from the set this time?

A lot of high energy, some new songs from the upcoming album and a bit of the unknown. I never can truly say what to expect when I play a show. I like to go on tangents and free-style. I tend to change up my songs a bit depending on my mood and the environment. I like to let the energy in the room fuel my music. I also enjoy bringing energy and life from my songs to everyone in the room. A give give kinda situation if you will. Feeding off each other.

What else do you have coming up?

After my new album is released I will start booking a 2023 national tour. Probably thirty to forty show dates for next summer/ fall. I am very excited to get back on the road. I live for music and traveling. Playing music and traveling is the cherry on top for me. It continues to drive me in life.
