School’s stars to shine at Sony

The awardees to be honored at the 13th annual Tribute to the Stars were announced this week. The fundraising event, sponsored by the Culver City Education Foundation and the Culver City Unified School District, will for the first time be held at Sony Pictures Studios’ Main Street.

              This year’s Sony Pictures Entertainment Teacher of the Year award will be presented to Karen Burkenheim of Linwood E. Howe Elementary School. Other winners included Lupe Aguila of the Office of Child Development, who will be named the Rotary Club of Culver City Classified Employee of the Year, Symantec earned the Westfield Culver City CCUSD Superintendent’s Award, Akasha’s Alan Schulman secured the Playa Vista CCEF President’s Award, and Wally Marks will take home the Antioch University Shining Star Award.

            The See’s Candies Volunteers of the Year, given to individuals who go “above and beyond” to assist students and schools are handed by each particular school. The winners from each school are: El Marino Language School: Joan Salvaterra; El Rincon Elementary School: Cheri Noda; Farragut Elementary School: Dina Wahlert; La Ballona Elementary School: Heather Moses; Linwood E. Howe Elementary School: Amanda Chapman; Culver City Middle School: Bonnie Seeberger; Culver City High School: Dave Hauptman; Culver Park High School: Marsha Litter; Culver City Adult School: Doris Childs; Office of Child Development: Anne Burke.
