Scandinavian Dance class celebrates 30 years in Culver City

CCN

Culver City residents Dave and Wena Dows remember dancing at Peer Gynt Lodge on Watseka Avenue 30 years ago. The weekly Scandinavian Dance class, hosted Wednesday evenings from 7:30 to 10 p.m. at Lindberg Park will continue as of Sept. 10.

There are a wide variety of dances from Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark – from easy, fun mixers to couple turning dances such as Hambo and Polska, which can be delightfully challenging and rewarding to master. Participants, whether coming as couples or singles, are rotated during teaching. Skandia South also has monthly dances with live music, and teachers and musicians visit from Scandinavia several times during the year (www.dancin-fool.com/scandia).

People are welcomed to join and take the opportunity to exercise the body and brain, and enjoy wonderful music. Adult beginners are welcome and everyone is encouraged to check out the class any Wednesday at Lindberg Park’s stone house. It is recommended that smooth-leather soled shoes be worn and there is no need to be Scandinavian to join in the fun.

The Culver City Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department sponsor the classes. For more information persons interested can call (310) 253-6650 or (310) 827-3618.
