Ready for another Walk with a Doc

Photo by Cristian Vasquez. Going strong—A group of residents committed to better health and a morning stroll continue to meet every third Saturday of the month for Walk with a Doc. This month’s walk will include a talk about Diabetes 2.

Walk with a Doc takes off again on the morning of Nov. 15 at 9 a.m. at Veterans’ Park. A warm-up session will begin at 8:40 a.m. and will be led by Culver Palms Healthy Lifestyles Counselor Brandon Webb. Jeff Penso, M.D. will update the walkers on the epidemic of Type 2 Diabetes, a disease that affects one out of twelve Americans. As Americans grow in age, and weight, Type 2 Diabetes becomes a potential or real health issue for more of us. Diabetes now consumes 14 percent of our nation’s hefty health budget. Many of us don’t even suspect we have the disease. How do we know if we, or our family members, are at risk for Type 2 Diabetes? What are possible complications?

As we know, diabetes can be treated. And with prompt detection, it can be prevented, reversed and complications avoided too. Walk with a Doc-Culver City, in coordination with L.A. County Medical Association and the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles will explain how this is possible.
