The Mighty Vornados is the jazzy, bluesy musical project of seasoned local performers Bruce Garnitz and Jesse Pesina. They perform at the Cinema Bar on Sunday, so they chatted with the CCN about what we can expect…

When did you start playing and performing?

Both Bruce and Jesse started performing at 11 and 12 years old in Chicago and San Antonio respectively. [The band formed in] 2017.

Describe your sound/style?

Our music has been described as “Jazz-Clectic” with a strong blues influence from his early Chicago roots. Always deep in the groove, our character-driven songs touch on the lighter to darker sides of life as we take the listener on a voyage through the joys, sorrows and absurdities of the world around us.

What are your career highlights so far…

Playing in the Superdome in New Orleans and being featured during a Presidential National Convention. What recorded music is available? You can find music at  BruceGarnitz.com – the latest album is “Thin Ice.”

Have you performed at Cinema Bar before?

We’ve performed at the Cinema Bar many times! We have had some of our favorite singers and musicians sitting in with the band each time we’ve played at the Cinema Bar. One of our favorite sessions was with guitarist/songwriter/producer and member of jackieO, Ira Ingber.

What can we expect from the set this time?

We’ve written two new bluesy Christmas songs and will be debuting them along with a couple of other new originals at Sunday’s show!

What else do you have coming up?

We are finishing a new album for 2023 and will be announcing an album release party soon!

The Mighty Vornados perform at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 18 at the Cinema Bar. Go to thecinemabar.com for more information about the venue, and brucegarnitz.com for more from the artist.
