Enjoy an intriguing arts experience and learn more about the dance art by attending Benita Bike’s DanceArt performance at 1:30 p.m., May 19, at the Culver City Senior Center, 4095 Overland Ave., Culver City.
Three concert dances will be performed with ample opportunities for asking questions and sharing opinions. This performance is made possible in part by the City of Culver City, in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Performing Arts Grant Program, with support from Sony Pictures Entertainment.
This performance is free to the public and suitable for all ages.
Benita Bike’s DanceArt has a long history of presenting dance outreach programs at community centers, art centers, libraries, and schools. These performances awaken people to the spiritual, emotional, and intellectual value of dance by presenting modern dance works in a non-intimidating fashion. The Company is dedicated to presenting polished concert quality dance not only in theater settings but also in non-conventional spaces in order to share a dance with people in their own communities.
Featured on this program is the new dance work “Plugged,” that explores our relationships to the machines that occupy our world and how these machines affect our sensitivity to nature, quiet, and the earth. Original sound score by composer Dean Wallraff.
In addition, the DanceArt Company will perform “Schoenfield Dances” and “On Beat 3.” “Schoenfield Dances” features a rag, Fughetta, shuffle, and boogie, and melds 20th Century popular dance with a classical movement sensibility. “On Beat 3” is a trio that uses driving percussive rhythms and colorful off-balance movements to explore a world of ordered chaos.
