On Earth Day (April 22), a cleanup effort was held by volunteers at the Ballona Wetlands.

Board members Sandrine Cassidy Schmitt and David Valdez of Ballona Creek Renaissance (BCR) shared in the event outreach and leadership, while providing volunteers and an event booth with educational displays and refreshments. Additionally, a Friends of Ballona Wetlands team, led by Patrick Tyrrell, organized and led tours and restoration and cleanup activities in the wetlands. Wetlands Docent June Walden, a member of both organizations, oversaw the creek cleanup effort. Also pitching in were BCR board member Bobbi Gold and advisory council members Dino Parks and Michele Bigelow.

Upstream in the Baldwin Hills, Jim and Cathi Lamm spoke with participants at the Ballona Creek Renaissance booth at EarthFestLA (earthfestla.org) in Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area. Discussions are under way to link the two areas by a Park-to-Playa trail (P2P). P2P Public Workshop #2 will be held at from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday, May 3, at the community building, at Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area, 4100 S. La Cienega Blvd., Los Angeles.

Friends of Ballona Wetlands typically hosts wetlands restoration and cleanup events on the morning of the fourth Saturday each month.
