Assemblywoman, Claus collaborate on unconventional Christmas

Santa Claus is teaming up with Assemblywoman Holly Mitchell (D-Culver City) to host Christmas in July on July 9 at the Lower Olympic Forest of Kenneth Hahn Park.

The event is intended to provide to promote literacy and good health for at-risk children in the 47th Assembly District, which also includes part of South Los Angeles. Children who have demonstrated improvement in their school work will participate in drawings for prizes, and all area children are welcome to join in activities designed to be fun, educational and healthy.

“As the mother of a child in our public school system, I see the challenges working families face in encouraging children to excel,” said Mitchell. “There are plenty of events and drives held during the holiday season every year but these children have needs year-round. People who care make Christmas happen, so we’re making it happen in July.”

Free health screenings will be held and the day will be capped off with a visit from Santa, who will bring gifts.
