Al Holbrook is a cosmic soul

Al Holbrook brings his cosmic soul to the Cinema Bar this weekend, and that’s a show that shouldn’t be missed. The man is an unusual musician – filled with joy and transcendent energy. His personality beams out through his songs. He told the CCN what he has in store for Culver City…

When did you start playing and performing? When did the band form?

The first recollection of performing feels ancient. Amongst heavenly host, perhaps. It gets lost in recollection yet is indelibly etched in the subconscious. It began in a space beyond time.

When did the band form? The lineup of beings currently in rotation formed four years ago. Drawn together through an orchestrated chaos of magnetism.

Describe your sound/style?

Hmmm, as light and cosmic expression. To specify or classify a genre, I suppose ‘cosmic soul’ would aptly apply. The sound weaves a tapestry through various permutations of tonality.

What are your career highlights so far?

Each and every opportunity to be a conduit before the people is a highlight for myself and every member assembled in the crew. Some of the most intimate shows have been filled with the most energy. Copenhagen Jazz fest 2018 at the Mojo Blues Club would have to be one of my favorites however.

What recorded music is available — particularly the most recent?

“Transcendent Love” is a part of the singles cycle of releases. And The new record, Traveling Bohemian Circus of Awe and Splendor, is coming soon with its first release “All the Stars” coming out March 14 on all platforms.

Have you performed at Cinema Bar before?

Upon arrival into this habitat of Angels, the Cinema Bar made for a very fitting first establishment in the city to play. Feels very endearing to be doing another set amongst the gems.

What can we expect from the set this time?

The beautiful trap of expectation. I love it! The Al Holbrook Band will embark on a journey to develop a sonic ascent from lower vibrational states of awareness up, up, and up into euphoric states of consciousness. Grooving and funkin’ every step of the way, ya dig?

What else do you have coming up?

Next up is a set at the Anaheim Packing District March 3. As well as a set at TRIP, Santa Monica, on March 29. After that, I’m hopping on the bus with the Traveling Bohemian Circus of Awe and Splendor and spreading a little love and good feels across the country.

Al Holbrook performs at 9 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19 at the Cinema Bar. Go to thecinemabar.com for more information about the venue.
