Acoustic Asylum bringing musical madness

Acoustic Asylum perform at Boulevard Music on Saturday, and the blurb on Boulevard’s website explains that “they’re free to play without studio tricks, without a bunch of pedals or synthesizers… just free to make grooving organic music.” Singer and accordion player Dan Radlauer told the CCN about how they’ll be bringing that acoustic energy to Culver…

When did you start playing and performing?

Everyone in this band started as kids and have become “black belts” at what they do.  In my case, I started this band around 2007 with the idea of composing music that would feature these amazing musicians in an acoustic setting, but not staying in just one Genre.

Describe your sound/style?

Quirky, funky, heartfelt, humorous, sophisticated, yet accessible.  In a word… WE HAVE FUN and the audience does too.  When we perform, world class will musicians come up and compliment us, meanwhile seven year old kids are dancing in the aisles.

What are your career highlights so far?

Every member in this band has played on recordings or live with major stars like Michael Jackson, Vince Gill, SuperTramp, Stevie Wonder and so many more. We bring all our experience, joy and love for music and our instruments to Acoustic Asylum.

What recorded music is available — particularly the most recent?

You can hear it on Spotify: Listen to Acoustic Asylum

Have you performed at Boulevard Music before?
We’ve played there a number of times… it’s a tight stage for 6 of us.. but we love it.

What can the audience expect from the set this time?

I like to say “It’s like nothing you’ve heard before, but has everything you love in music.”  We cover everything from Jazz, to Klezmer, Funk, Americana and quirky songs.

What else do you have coming up?

We’re playing at the Laguna “Festival of Arts” on August 11th.  It’s in conjunction with the “Pageant of the Masters.”

Acoustic Asylum performs alongside Bruce Forman at 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 8 at Boulevard Music. Go to boulevardmusic.com for more information.
