I was dismayed and disappointed to read the article by our Mayor, Jim Clarke, and Vice Mayor, Jeff Cooper, regarding the proposed ban on Styrofoam that harmfully makes its way into Ballona Creek.
Though the Mayor and Vice Mayor apparently acknowledge the deleterious effects of Styrofoam, they address the need to eliminate it with a “yes, but….” attitude. I am in favor of moving this ban forward now, and if anyone has valid arguments against banning single-use polystyrene in our city, I would listen to their arguments.
However, a “yes, but…” argument is a quick path to nowhere and leaves me concerned that those who are diligently working to do what is best for Culver City will have a very uphill battle.
