History in the making


The Culver City Historical Society will hold its winter general membership meeting and dinner Wednesday, Jan.18 at 6:30 pm in the dining room at the The Culver Studios in downtown Culver City, 9336 W. Washington Blvd.

The program will include the installation of President-elect Louise Coffey-Webb and her new board, as well as a presentation to thank outgoing President Stu Freeman. Coffey-Webb has served as chair of the costumes committee and has cataloged the MGM costume collection for the society. Currently, the United States’ representative for British designer Zandra Rhodes, she is also on the board of the Galanos Foundation. She was raised in England, where she worked for the British Broadcasting Network and has also served as a curator and archival advisor to LACMA, among other institutions.

The installing officer will be special guest, Dr. Janet R. Fireman, editor of “California History,” and immediate-past president of the Pacific Coast Branch of the American Historical Association. The installation co-chairs are Tami Eskridge and Steven Rose.

Seating is limited and reservations are required for the buffet dinner. Tickets are $40 each and the deadline is Jan. 13. No tickets will be sold at the event. Send checks payable to the Culver City Historical Society, P.O. Box 3428, Culver City, CA 90231-3428.
