Summertime is a time for kids to get away from school, spend time with family members and go on vacation but for kids who want to improve their game summer sports camp is the place to be. Kids want to get ready to play organize team sports and high school and college sports. Other kids dream big and hope to make it to the professional leagues. Whatever the case is, summer camps are vital for growth and development.

Culver City High School summer baseball camp, held at the high school’s baseball field is an excellent opportunity for beginners and kids with experience to learn how to play baseball the right way.  Under the leadership of Culver City High School’s head baseball coach Devaughn Wallace along with former head coach Rick Prieto, they are there to answer questions and give instructions.  For over 35 years the camp has provided a chance for kids to learn baseball skills and have fun.

“Coach Prieto has been running the camp all these years even before I was a student here,” said Wallace. “It’s an awesome feeling to be here with the kids. All the kids that are here are kids that want to be here. You can tell that the kids want to be here just by the look on their faces. They come and talk to you and ask you questions. It’s a good fun time for us and for them.”

What does a coach tell a young kid that wants to play for Culver City
High School. “I tell them that we look forward to seeing you here, but you have to keep working hard and when you get here, we will have a chance to do something special like we did this year,” said Wallace.

That something special was winning a CIF baseball championship this past season. “It feels great to be able to win a championship,” said Wallace. “Just the other day I had to sit back and realize what really happened. We just accomplished something major. Our team had great mental toughness. You go through trials and tribulations but in the end, it was all worth it.”
