progresses on schedule

On schedule for completion by football season, the Culver City High School athletic complex is a maze of foundations, trenches, and power lines installed for the snack bar, ticket booth, restrooms and synthetic fieldBuilding foundations are poured, trenches for drainage are cut and power and communication lines for track timers and coaches are laid.

Brick masons are constructing the snack bar, ticket booth, and restrooms further from the street than at present, according to Gary Nendadal, project supervisor.  The area will be landscaped, he said.

The synthetic field’s cooling system will employ “water cannons” to cool and wash the field, according to George Laase, who reports on Culver High happenings.

Upcoming work includes constructing visitors-side bathrooms and cutting more trenches for the underground field drainage system.  Filtered water from the underground system will drain into La Ballona Creek, said Nendadal.

Balfour-Beatty has leveled the outer practice fields and planted grass seed. The company will test the district’s watering system to adjust and replace sprinkler heads.  The baseball outfield will be reseeded.

“Everytime I drop by, it looks quite different than the last time I came to take pictures,” said Laase.

Centaurs open the football season against visiting West Torrance, Sept. 6.
