Marsland to revisit old ghosts at Cinema Bar

(Tim Rose)

Locally-based musician Adam Marsland is perhaps best known for his ‘90s power-pop band Cockeyed Ghost, part of L.A.’s pop-underground scene at the time. Since the 2001 break-up, Marsland has been in a bunch of other bands, and worked as a solo artist and a sideman. At the Cinema Bar on Friday, Marsland will be reuniting with some old friends and he told the CCN all about it.

When did you start playing and performing? When did the band form?

1980.

Describe your sound/style?

I like and have played many different kinds of music, but I like pop and soul music of the ’60s and ’70s best.

What are your career highlights so far?

Recording and performing with legends of music like the Wrecking Crew, members of the Beach Boys, Earth, Wind & Fire, David Allen, the Standells, touring the U.S. 25 times, and most recently playing a nine month stint in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

What recorded music is available — particularly the most recent?

[It’s at] adammarsland.bandcamp.com/

Have you performed at Cinema Bar before?

Yes, many times. Adam’s ’70s Show was a regular feature there 10 years ago, and we had many great nights with fantastic guest artists which can be seen on youTube.

What can we expect from the set this time?

I am reuniting with several of my old bands, including Adam Marsland’s Chaos Band, Cockeyed Ghost and Martin Luther Lennon. The latter two have not played together in over a decade.

What else do you have coming up?

I will be returning to Asia to finish my engagements in Cambodia, then I hope to do shows in different countries around the world throughout 2023 and 2024, starting in Japan and the Philippines this spring.
