Letter to the Editor

Dear editor,

This is an email I’ve wanted to write since the end of the last school year (where did the summer go?) And now that a new school year has begun, I had to tell you how wonderful our experience has been with the [Culver City] Middle School. My son is now moving on to the [Culver City] High School and I can only hope that the experience will be as good as our three years at the middle school.

My very first interaction with the staff was with the assistant principal, Ms. Jocie Wilson. It was a class change for my son that was taken care of very quickly and with a very sweet and upbeat attitude. She sort of set the tone for the next three years. She was my son’s principal and while he was there we had a few occasions to visit her in her office. She dealt with every issue fairly and with compassion; she was able to help make an unpleasant  situation a little easier, at least for me.

My experience with Mr. Rick Barclay was also very similar. He is a very upbeat, firm but fair administrator. The principal, Mr. Jon Pearson, is an asset to the Culver City School District. He started at the middle school the year my son started and I think that he has been awesome. His job is huge. He oversees around 1,500 11-14 year-olds with enormous enthusiasm  and integrity. I personally don’t know how he does it; I would lose my mind after one day with those precious children. My son’s counselor, Mr. Joel Bernstein, was also wonderful and always very helpful. Pretty much everyone in the office that I had any interaction with all three years my child was there were helpful and knowledgeable. Most of my son’s teachers were good and more than a few were exceptional.

Overall, we couldn’t have asked for a better experience.

Mea Combs,

Culver City
