On May 31st, I was invited by KidScoop Media to the Teal Carpet for Phineas and Ferb’s season five premiere. There were three main events, the Teal Carpet, the screening, and the reception.
During the Teal Carpet, I met the main cast and creators of Phineas and Ferb, and many other Disney Channel actors. I asked questions about the cast members’ opinions on the new season and their previous experiences outside of this project. I spoke with Alyson Stoner, the voice of Isabella on the show, and Olivia Olsen, the voice of Vanessa. I asked the two about any shenanigans that may happen in the upcoming season, and they both said something similar.
They revealed that Isabella and the Fireside Girls (aka girlscouts) would be going “a little bananas”. I then spoke with Ashley Tisdale, the voice of Candace, and Dee Bradley Baker, the voice of Perry the Platypus. I talked to them about being behind the microphone and that experience.
“Every character that a voice actor voices is ultimately a collaboration” said Dee Bradley. He elaborated on the teamwork that’s used to build a character, which was eye opening since I really only noticed the voices behind it. When speaking with Ashley about her transition from on-camera to voice acting, she mentioned having to be a lot bigger behind the mic for it to present on screen.
After talking to Ashley, I spoke with Dan Povenmire and Jeff “Swampy” Marsh, the creators of Phineas and Ferb, asking why they created it. They said that they wanted to keep working together, so they found Phineas and Ferb to continue that. After the Teal Carpet, I watched the screening, and it was incredible. It wasn’t incredible just because it was Phineas and Ferb, but also because of the sense of community. Everyone was singing along to the theme song as it played, and the feeling it gave me was so welcoming and filled with joy. Ashley Tisdale and Olivia Olsen performed their duet, Busted, live for the first time ever, and it was such an honor to see it happen.The reception was so great. I filled up on pancakes while The Linda Lindas played a ton of hit songs from the show.
Overall, I had an amazing time and learned a lot about the behind the scenes, the community, and what it takes to make a super cool show.
