Culver City High School football coach Jahmal Wright was named coach of the year for the second time after picking up the honor in 2009.  Several players on his Ocean League championship squad earned selections to All-League and All-CIF teams.

Awardees were announced at the annual Centaur football team banquet, last Thursday, at Culver City High School.

Two-way player Stanley Norman and linebacker Remy Grundy made the All CIF team.

“That’s a huge accomplishment, as they were voted in by coaches in the 30-team division,” said Wright.

Norman, a junior, returns next season with Donovan Davis (so.) and Anthony Polk (jr.) to bolster the running back and receiver corps, noted Wright.

Sophomore wide receiver Marcus Moore, senior cornerback Kevin Beacham, junior defensive back Reynard Saxon and junior center Alfredo Mendoza also were voted to the All Ocean league first team.

“Kevin Beacham has worked real hard and is deservedly getting scholarship offers,” said Wright.

“So many on the team made all league, and the coaches are proud of them.  They are quality young men who worked real hard, put in their time and are deserving,” said Wright.

Wright, a 1995 Centaur alumnus, was a three time All Ocean League defensive back.
