At the City Council meeting on the evening of Monday, June 23, Action Item 2 (A2) called for the, “Introduction of an Ordinance Adopting Very High, High, and Moderate Fire Hazard Severity Zones by Amending and Restating in its Entirety Section 9.02.400 of the Culver City Municipal Code Regarding the Designation of Very High, High, and Moderate Fire Hazard Severity Zones.”

A staff note read that, “the Culver City Fire Department (CCFD) is recommending increasing the State-recommended FHSZ designation for the Wrightcrest neighborhood, as well as for the lower Culver Crest neighborhood, which are currently already within Very High FHSZs; as such, property owners in those areas will not have new requirements.”

That item passed unanimously.

Action Item 1 (A1) called for, “??Discussion of the Proclamation of a Local Emergency on Homelessness.”

According to a presentation by Tevis Barnes, head of the Department of Housing and Human Services, Project Homekey – Permanent Supportive Housing is currently operating at 100 percent, with 37 residents in 35 units. Project Homekey – Interim Supportive Housing is operating at 91 percent, with 32 residents (32 out of 35 units are occupied). The Wellness Village has 17 guests in 16 tents (including one couple). 39 persons, including seven couples, are utilizing the Motel Master Leasing and Nutrition Program.

While the Councilmembers commended the city staff on the progress that has been made, most agreed that homelessness in Culver City remains in a state of crisis.

There were five Public Hearings, starting with PH1: “Adoption of a Resolution Confirming the Assessment and Ordering the Levy for the Sewer User’s Service Charge for Fiscal Year 2025/2026.” That passed unanimously, as did PH2: “Adoption of a Resolution Approving and Adopting Updates to the Comprehensive Fee Schedule for Fiscal Year 2025-2026.”

PH3, 4 and 5 called for, “ Adoption of a Resolution Approving the Annual Assessment Levy for Benefit Assessment District West Washington Boulevard No. 1 for Fiscal Year 2025/2026,” “Adoption of a Resolution Approving the Annual Assessment Levy for Benefit Assessment District West Washington Boulevard No. 2 for Fiscal Year 2025/2026,” and “Adoption of a Resolution Approving the Annual Assessment Levy for Benefit Assessment District West Washington Boulevard No. 3 for Fiscal Year 2025/2026.”

All three sailed through without issue.
