The second-place Culver City High School baseball team plays in the first round of CIF playoffs this week after dropping a pair of games last week to unbeaten Santa Monica.

Ryan Mulvihill had a perfect day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a walk and a run scored, but the Centaurs could not muster enough offense in a 7-3 defeat to the Vikings last Thursday to close out their league record at 8-2.

The Centaurs outhit the Vikings, nine to seven. Lukas O’Connor took the loss, allowing four runs, four hits and three walks in three innings of work. Tyler Mark, Pablo Saucedo and Jacob Metzinger relieved O’Connor.

Mark went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI. Rodney Bradley, Skylar Blocker, O’Connor and Chris Caines each hit safely.

Last Tuesday, the Centaurs lost a pitchers’ duel, 2-1, against the Vikings. Three Centaur errors cost a solid on-the-mound performance by Mark.

Tyler Adkison, Mark, and George Aceves had singles, and Aceves drove in the only run.
