Every summer high school football teams test their skilled offensive players in passing tournaments that showcase the talent of quarterbacks, receivers and running backs. Last Saturday on a perfect South Bay morning at Redondo Union High School Culver City walked away with a record of 4-1. “It went okay,” said Culver City’s head football coach Jahmal Wright. “We played five games and won four of those five games.”

Wright knows the summer is just the beginning of the process of molding the Centaurs into a good high school football team. “We are just slowly but surely executing and becoming a team,” said Wright. “I am proud of the progress that we are making.”

Wright must replace several outstanding All-CIF players on offense and defense but one player that is stepping up to the challenge is receiver William Fourte according to coach Wright. During the passing tournament Fourte showed he is ready for a breakout  year next fall. “William has really emerged as a senior leader and a force that we are going to be able to depend on as a receiver for us.  William and Langston Wilson have really taken their senior leadership to the next level.”

Fourte knows all the eyes will be on him and fellow senior receiver Harley Moore. After two years of varsity football at Culver City he appears to be ready for the challenge. “It’s a little bit of pressure but I know that I will have to be strong for the younger receivers that are under me,” said Fourte. “I know I will have to step out and make big plays and lead by example.”

After playing with his brother Mark Fourte for the past several years, William knows he has some big shoes to fill.  Mark was part of the group of outstanding players that graduated in June so now William listens to his brother’s advice. “He tells me to take it one step at a time and be grateful for the opportunity but also dominate and show have strong I am and how good I can be.” William is 6’2 and 175 pounds.

William Fourte is happy that Culver City’s junior quarterback Nick Hoang and the Centaur coaching staff have faith in him. He knows it’s time to make an impact along with his fellow teammates.

William is a two sport student athlete because he is also a very good basketball player. “It’s kind of difficult but my body and mind has gotten use to it. I have to put in the work to be great at both sports.”
