Centaur basketball team reaches Watts Games finals

The Culver City High School boys basketball team moved into the finals of the Los Angeles Watts Summer Games (Silver division) with a 51-37 victory over Huntington Park at Southwest Junior College on Saturday.

Aamahd Walker (7 defensive rebounds, 4 steals, 1 block) and Keilan Horton (7 defensive rebounds, 4 steals) were the defensive players of the game.

Culver City’s pressure defense was the key to a 15-4 first quarter advantage. Steals and fast breaks resulted in a 47-24 lead after three quarters.

Horton led Culver City with 45 hustle points (rebounds, assists, steals). Walker had 30, Emanuel Perez tallied 25, Sal De Leon earned 22, Terrence Curry had 18, and J.R. Montgomery put together 15 hustle points for the Centaurs.

Culver City reached the finals by turning a close game into a 62-41 quarterfinals win over Panorama with a 13-4 fourth-quarter sprint.

The Centaurs coasted to a first-round win over King Drew, 66 to 23, and topped league rival Beverly Hills, 55-50, in a tense and physical double-overtime contest in the second round of the annual tournament.
