CCSCC in search of students, chaperones for S. Korea visit

A GIFT OF ART—Members of the Culver City Sister City Committee appeared at a recent City Council meeting to show a painting of Culver City City Hall by local artist Maria Kurtz (holding painting), which was later presented to Mayor Jeong Hun-Yul of Iksan City, South Korea. The painting was a gift in commemoration of the 35th anniversary of the Sister City relationship of the two cities and was presented when four CCSCC board members attended the 99th National Sports Festival, which took place in Iksan in mid-October. Culver City Sister City Committee (CCSCC) is looking for high school-age students who will be entering 9th through 11th graded in the Fall of 2019 and are interested in participating in a student exchange program with our sister city in Iksan, South Korea in Summer 2019-2020.

“Our program fosters international and intercultural understanding through the exchange of high school students with the goal of educating our youth about different people and cultures,” a CCSCC spokesperson said.

This opportunity is open to students who attend Culver City schools, live in Culver City or whose parents work in Culver City and reside within 5 miles of Culver City.

The Sister City Committee is also looking for two adult chaperones to accompany the students to Iksan.

CCSCC has worked for many years to build exchanges that create community impact and kindle lifelong friendships. We believe in the power of personal connections and the value of face-to-face meetings and personal relationships across borders – that it doesn’t just change the lives of individuals; but also helps our community of Culver City and communities all over the world to thrive in many ways.

Interested students and parents are invited to attend an informational meeting on Thursday, Nov. 29 at 7 p.m. at the Julian Dixon Library, 4975 Overland Ave., Culver City.

RSVP to the meeting by contacting Paula Hibbs, Iksan Chairperson at paula.hibbs.ccscc@gmail.com
