Candidate Lee sets platform on environment, economic fairness, government accountability

Endorsed by Sahli-Wells, Small, Tuttle, Bass

When Culver City Council candidate Daniel Lee launched his campaign at the home of Culver City School Board Member Kelly Kent in November, he probably didn’t anticipate the onslaught of support that he would eventually receive.

Since November, Lee’s campaign has received the support of not only Kent, but also of two-term Culver City Council Member Meghan Sahli-Wells, Culver City Vice Mayor Thomas Small, and former Los Angeles City Controller Rick Tuttle.

Lee also picked up an official endorsement from U.S. Representative Karen Bass.

“I’m proud to support Daniel Lee for City Council,” said Sahli-Wells. I admire Daniel’s deep understanding of policy and his dedication to serving our community and our country. Locally, he’s worked for environmental protection, safe streets, and affordable housing. His national experience fighting for transparency, open government, and civil rights is also impressive. Daniel is uniquely qualified to serve our city.”

In addition to the support of city officials, Lee has garnered official endorsements from leading organizations such as the Sierra Club, the Los Angeles County Democratic Party, and the Culver City Democratic Club.

“Everyone working on the campaign deserves credit for the recognition we’ve received from these well-respected organizations,” said Lee. “We’re grateful for the support we’re getting from the Culver City community, as well as regional leaders and representatives.”

Lee’s platform encompasses three primary actions: protect the environment, encourage economic fairness, and ensure government accountability.

To protect the environment, Lee wants to create rules that would protect citizens from oil pollution and fracking. Lee also wants environmentally sound building codes and a robust sustainability plan.

To encourage fairness, Lee is pushing for inclusionary zoning and affordable housing initiatives, making it possible for middle- and lower-wage residents to live and work in Culver City.

To ensure government accountability, Lee wants all City Council members to get out into the community on a regular basis and personally engage with residents so that they will be better able to represent the concerns of residents at council meetings.
