Five student-athletes from the West Los Angeles College track & field team, including two who earned State Champion titles, were named to the United States Community College Track Coaches Association (USCCTCA) All-American team for Community Colleges.

Earlier in the season, the Wildcats men and women squads finished in second place in the competitive Western State Conference. Both programs have either placed first or second place every year since 2009, winning a total of seven team titles and 68 individual titles.

The All-American were Dylan Alexander, men’s 5000 meter State Champion; and Ashlie Curenton, women’s long jump State Championship. Also honored were women’s 4×100 relay team, which included Shadonna Hunter, Mariah Richards-Maynard, Taji McKinley and Curenton.

At the State meet hosted at Mt. San Antonio College earlier this month, Cureton won the title with a school record leap of 20’6 ½” in the long jump. Not to be outdone, the men earned a State championship in the 5000 meters when Dylan Alexander ran the 3.1-mile distance in 14:41.45.  His mark was also a new school record.

The two were named Western State Conference female and male “Athlete of the Year.” The pair were part of 20 student-athletes named to the All-Conference team.
