In favor of short-term rentals
Last year I had a wonderful experience traveling throughout Cuba and staying with AIRBNB hosts, commonly called “Casa Particulars.” I got to meet the friendly Cuban people in this cultural mix and exchange. As a result, I was inspired to become an AIRBNB host after this trip.
Since becoming an AIRBNB or short term rental host, I have met hundreds of travelers from all over the United States, and the world visiting Culver City. I have over 241 positive reviews on my AIRBNB website where I have recommended travelers to business here in Culver City. I think one would call this a win-win situation, where travelers get the benefit of staying in a comfortable home and I get financial consideration to help pay my mortgage.
Unfortunately, some bureaucrats in Culver City are now proposing draconian regulations and an ordinance to stifle and inhibit property rights of short-term rental owners.
In fact, these bureaucrats are trying to convince and influence City Council members on the short term rental task force to agree to arbitrarily limit guest stays and impose ridiculous fines of up to $2,000 a day. In other words, these bureaucrats are trying to criminalize me for wanting to share my home with a Traveler!
I am urging members of the City Council to reject the proposed ordinance against Short-Term Rentals and allow for the win–win freedom of cultural exchange and benefits coming through short term renting.
