Woman’s Club trip will include e xploration of unique garden, lunch in historic building

A trip organized by the Culver

City Woman’s Club invites

the public to a trip to Lotusland

in Montecito.

The trip, scheduled for

Wednesday, October 9, will

take visitors through the former

home of well-known Polish

opera singer and socialite,

Madame Ganna Walska, who

purchased the estate in 1941

and spent the next 43 years creating

a magnificent botanical

garden.

“They have so many different

gardens,” Tara Foster said.

“Photography is permitted for

one’s personal use and it is an

hour-and-a-half, to two-hour

guided tour.”

The docent-led tour highlights

of the 35-acre plethora

of gardens which features: aloe

garden, Australian garden, blue

garden, bromeliads, butterfly

garden, cacti & euphorbias,

cactus garden, cycad garden,

fern garden, Japanese garden,

orchards, parterre, succulent

garden, theatre garden, topiary

garden, tropical garden,

water garden, water stairs and

cypress allée.

“There is no limit as to how

many people can come so we

are open to anyone who wants

to join us,” Foster said. “If we

can get 40-45 people to join us,

we will be perfectly happy with

that.”

The cost of the trip is $68 and

includes admission and tour of

the gardens, lunch at the Summerland

Beach Café, transportation,

tax and tips. The coach

will leave Culver Palms Methodist

Church located at 4464

Sepulveda Blvd. Culver City

at 9:30 a.m. and will return at

approximately 5:30 p.m.

“Part of the reason for this

type of event is that we can do

fundraising for local charities,”

Foster said. “But it is also a way

for us to meet new ladies who

would like to join our cause;

that is why we opened it up so

that everyone can join.”

Founded in 1920, the Culver

City Woman’s Club is active

in participating in local social

and cultural events. Its philanthropy

efforts include Meals

on Wheels, the USO (LAX),

Foster Care for Children and

even donating money for scholarships

to Culver City High

School.

“We do make a few dollars

but not and extravagant amount

of money,” Foster said. “All of

that money goes to charity and

we make sure that they are Culver

City related.”

The day’s trip will begin

with lunch at the Summerland

Beach Café which was a house

built in 1870 before it was

turned into a restaurant.

persons interested can
