Suspect dead, officer in stable condition after violent standoff

On Aug. 3 at approximately 2:25 p.m., Culver City Police Dispatch received a call of an armed male white suspect in the area of 8850 Washington Blvd. Upon their arrival, Culver City Police Officers encountered the armed suspect. 

Officers located the suspect who attempted to elude them within a stairwell in the parking structure.

A short standoff ensued and as the officers attempted to communicate with the suspect, he suddenly charged at the officers while armed with a knife This was followed by an officer involved shooting. One Culver City Police Officer was struck by gunfire. He was transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition. The suspect was also struck by gunfire; he did not survive. A knife was recovered at the scene.

No other officers were injured during the encounter.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department along with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office are investigating the incident.
