Students rewarded for their art, creativity

On Jan. 28 the School Board awarded certificates to students who created art based on the theme Believe, Inspire, Dream. The students won the Council level of the Reflection Program, an art competition sponsored by the National PTA.

Winners in each category are as follows:

Culver City Council Winners from La Ballona Elementary School; Mingus Schoffman in the primary visual arts, and Lysander Pop in the intermediate visual arts.

The winner from Culver City Middle School were: Maryam Nawaz, in middle school literature, Isabella Bustanoby in middle school visual arts, Evan Pearson in middle school photography and Matthew Johannesen middle school film production.

High School winners included Hannah Berkovich for high school photography, Rachel Tucker in high school visual arts, Patrick Gardner for high school musical composition and Justin Terry for high school film production.

Artwork that placed first will be sent to the California State PTA in Sacramento for the next round of judging. They will be recognized at the Reflections Recognition & Reception Tea along with the second and third place entries.

In addition, the 33rd District has recognized the following students: for Awards of Excellence (first place), Patrick Gardner for high school music composition; Awards of Merit (second place), Hannah Berkovich in for high school photography and Justin Terry for high school film production. Awards of Recognition (third place) went to Maryam Nawa, for middle school literature.

All students are from Culver City Middle School and Culver City High School.
