TLast Wednesday, May 30, from 6 a.m. until 1 p.m. a short bit was filmed at the Backstage Bar, 10400 Culver Blvd., to be used in Spike TV’s upcoming annual “Guys Choice Awards.” This year’s star-studded homage to the year in Guydom once again brings together the biggest names in entertainment and sports. The show was taped Saturday, June 2 at the Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, and airs on Saturday, June 9 at 9 p.m. on Spike TV.
Filming on Wednesday, June 6 thru Friday, June 8, from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. at Culver Events, 11948 Washington Blvd., is for a scene for an upcoming TV movie titled, “Another Christmas.”
On Thursday, June 7, Surfas Restaurant Supply and Gourmet Food, 8777 W. Washington Blvd. a Blue Cross commercial will be filming from 6 a.m. until 10 p.m. Also on Thursday, the Culver City Council Chambers, Culver City Hall, 9770 Culver Blvd., will be the location of a Medical commercial filming from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
DID YOU KNOW: Located conveniently across the street from the employee entrance to Sony Studios at 10400 Culver Blvd., the appropriately named, Backstage Bar is a legendary dive bar in Culver City, that has been around for more than 70 years. It’s initial claim to fame was that it was the Munchkin bar during the filming of Wizard Of Oz, since the cast of little people from the film flocked to it after each day’s wrap, but now it attracts a good mix of all type of folk. It has the cheapest drinks ($4 well, $3 beer) and the Best Bar Food in L.A. They claim to have the only bar kitchen in history without a freezer or microwave. Whether or not that’s true, the food has that homemade feel to it and is delicious.
