Sherriff becomes a Cardinal

The Sherriff left town, but he might come back as a visiting professional baseball player.

Former Culver City High School pitcher Ryan Sherriff is the ace of the Class-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals in the Florida State League. His earned-run average hovers near 2.5.

Sherriff, who helped the Glendale Community College Vaqueros reach the state playoffs for the first time in the program’s history in 2011, continues to impress with Palm Beach since being promoted last month.

The Culver City native played baseball for Culver High, West Los Angeles College and Glendale City College.  He refused his first draft out of West LA by the Washington Nationals. The following year he was drafted out of Glendale College to the St. Louis Cardinals and is now in Florida.

His local influences include former Centaur coach, minor league baseball player and in his childhood a Culver City Little League all-star, Bobby Dobson. Ryan’s father, Larry, coached Ryan’s senior league team for two years.

“Aunt Jackie and I are Ryan’s biggest fans. We’re so proud of him. Many people in Culver City know Ryan and are interested in his progress,” said his mom, Renee.
