Remains remain a mystery

Coroner’s investigators will use dental impressions or other forensic methods to identify a person whose remains were found in a vehicle beneath an embankment in Malibu.

The remains were discovered about 2 p.m., March 24 in a ravine below the 4400 block of Encinal Canyon Road, according to Assistant Chief Ed Winter of the coroner’s office.

It was unknown how long the vehicle and remains were at the remote location, at least 200 yards down the embankment from the road, Winter said.

Deputies did not immediately release the name of the registered owner of the vehicle, but said the body was believed to belong to a local man.
