Based in Southern California, Looney’s Fortune say that they perform “traditional Celtic music and songs on hammered dulcimer, fiddle, guitar, banjo and accordions.” They play Boulevard Music this week, so the band spoke to the News about what they have in store for Culver City…
When and how did this band form?
We met in the 1980s but we formed a band in the early 2000s.
Describe your sound…
We perform traditional Celtic music and songs on hammered dulcimer, fiddle, guitar, banjo and accordions. Our tight yet dynamic instrumentation supports the well blended vocal harmonies proving that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts!
What are your career highlights so far?
Downtown Disney St Patrick’s day events, California Celtic Festival 2024 & 2025, St Patrick’s day events at The Ranch in Laguna Beach.
Do you have any recorded music available?
West Coast Irish full length CD (15 tracks), Bird in the Bush EP (5 tracks), Crossing the Seas EP (5 tracks), All available on Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon music, etc. or actual CDs from us in person at the concert!
Have you performed at Boulevard before? Any memories?
We are very grateful to Brenda Hunter, Jill Egland and Kat Edmonson (Banshee in the Kitchen) for their recommendation to Gary at Boulevard Music. This will be our first performance at Boulevard Music and we are thrilled to be included in their stellar lineup!
What can we expect from the set this time?
We have a mix of peppy and slower tunes on hammered dulcimer, fiddle, guitar, accordions and banjo. Georgiana and Patti will sing some funny songs and soft ballads that the audience will be welcomed to sing along with.
What else do you have coming up?
We will be performing at the Fresno Scottish Games September 20. We play at the Auld Dubliner in Long Beach, hosting the Irish session there the fourth Sunday of the month 4-7 p.m.
Looney’s Fortune performs at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23 at Boulevard Music. More info on the show at boulevardmusic.com. More info on the band at jamesleestanley.com.
