Kids dreaming of an i-Xmas

What do your kids want for Christmas? If they’re like most, probably the hottest gadget on the market: the iPad.

A recent Nielsen study surveying children ages 6-12 on what they want for the holidays reported that the high-priced tech item is followed closely by the iPod Touch and the iPhone. Of the top 18 items on the list, all were electronic and included Microsoft Xbox, eReaders, TVs and Blu-Ray players.

Toys aren’t a thing of the past, but they do tend to appeal to the tiny-tot set, unaware of the pleasures of the iPad. Tops on the pre-school list are the Let’s Rock Elmo, Xia-Xia Hermit Crabs, Hot Wheels Wall Tracks and the Silly Hair Jewel Sparkle Doll. Classic bestsellers seem to be back in the mix as well, with stores stocking Barbie dolls and Lego sets due to high demand.

Stores are hoping for a happy holiday from consumers, especially parents buying for children. Some of the stores that offer the deepest discounts on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, include Toys “R” Us, Target, Walmart, Best Buy and Old Navy.
