Americana artist Harry Hochman performs at the Cinema Bar this week, so Hochman himself told the News about what he has in store for Culver City…

When did you start playing and performing? When did the band form?

I’ve been playing around town for about 5 years. This iteration of the band formed about six months ago. Most of us met at The Cinema Bar, which has a great community of musicians who perform at the Wednesday open mics.

Describe your sound…

The genre would be Americana, which I know is incredibly broad. I think of it as kind of intelligent folk-rock or folk-country, depending on the song. Music that you can enjoy without cringing. Lyrics are very important to me.

What are your career highlights so far?

Every show we play is the highlight so far, because we keep improving each time. Literally.

What recorded music is available?

I have an album, Inside Out, that was released about two years ago, and an EP called Oh Michigan, that was released last fall on Spotify and other digital streaming platforms.

Have you performed at Cinema Bar before?

The Cinema Bar is the place we have played most frequently. We love it.

What can we expect from the set this time?

It will be a mix of songs from the album and the EP, some great covers, and also a few songs I have written recently. You can expect to have fun!

What else do you have coming up?

Unusually, we have no gigs scheduled as yet.

The Harry Hochman Band performs at 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 7 at the Cinema Bar. Go to thecinemabar.com for more information about the venue.
