Green skies ahead

Two airports in the region are committing to alternative fuels for their vehicles. The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners approved a contract to purchase nine new trucks powered by compressed natural gas.

The $411,704 contract was awarded to San Margarita Ford. Three utility trucks and one pickup will be used at Los Angeles International Airport and one utility truck and four pickups will be used at LA/Ontario International Airport.

“We believe that alternative-fuel vehicle use is an important element to meeting California’s future energy needs and we are well on our way to converting our entire inventory to its use,” said Ralph Morones, director of the Maintenance Services Division.

Nearly two-thirds of LAX’s fleet is powered by alternative fuel.

To encourage the use of zero-emission electric vehicles, free charging stations are available in parking structures 1 and 6 at LAX.
