Everything about mini-chain Ginger’s Divine Ice-Cream is meticulous. Every little detail, from the packaging to the website to the ice-cream itself–nothing has been done half-hearted. That care goes a long way.

Sure, as a result the prices are higher than those at your average ice-cream parlor. When ice-cream is served in artisan jars, with the name of the company molded into the glass, and when the dessert arrives delivered in little yellow freezer bags, again embossed with their name, you realize that Ginger’s really cares, and you have to pay for that sort of care.

The menu is incredible. The Billionaire Brownie is described as, “Vanilla ice cream with in-house made brownies, salted pecans with ribbons of caramel and fudge. Our biggest selling item!” Rather than a regular old vanilla, they have Burnt Sugar Vanilla: “Vanilla ice-cream with caramelized burnt sugar.” The Blood Orange Chip is listed as, “Moro blood oranges (Polito farms) with bittersweet chocolate chips.”

“Gingers ice cream is made right here on the premises daily,” they say online. “Twenty to twenty five flavors to choose from. Local ingredients and locals who work and live in the hood as Ginger does. Divine Pops like nothing you have tasted before- all made right here.”

But we had the Butterscotch Oreos and Fudge: “Butterscotch ice cream, with house made fudge and Oreo cookies, of course!”

We’re not exaggerating when we say that this was the best ice-cream we’ve had in many years. It may have ruined regular ice-cream for us for the rest of time. How are we supposed to enjoy a normal pint from the supermarket after indulging in this frozen art.

And it is art. The butterscotch ice-cream alone is as divine as the company name would suggest. Sweet and coquettish, the cold and caramel-ish butterscotch flavor dances around the tastebuds like a tipsy ballerina. Just when you think the sugary intensity is easing up, it returns with a delightful vengeance.

The fudge swirl is incredible. Rather being overly chocolatey and overpowering the butterscotch flavor, the balance is sheer perfection. Add to that the large chunks of oreo cookies, with their cookies and cream textures and flavors, and you have a quite incredible ice-cream.

Ginger also has vegan options, including a fascinating-sounding Pickled Strawberry & Blueberry Pie flavor, so there’s something for everyone. The pops looks delicious too, proving that you could go back to Ginger’s on numerous occasions before even starting to get bored. Go on, treat yourself.
