DETERMINED AND STANDING FOR DEMOCRACY

A group of Culver City/West Los Angeles residents — some in their 70s and 80s — are “standing up” on busy Culver City and Los Angeles intersections reminding their neighbors and passers-by to vote on or before November 3rd. The group is gathering at different locales throughout the area wearing face masks and carrying placards with such messages as “Grandma says: Be sure to vote!” and “Stand up for justice — vote!” Their efforts started on Sept. 4 and will continue every Friday afternoon at 5 p.m. until Election Day.
One 83-year-old member of the group has noted that the project reflects her determination and that of her colleagues to stand up for democracy—even during this pandemic– by emphasizing, in person, the importance of every vote in this upcoming election. Organizers are committed to carrying out the project in a manner that respects restrictions made necessary by the COVID-19 pandemic.
