Council member opts not to run again

Culver City Councilmember, Christopher Armenta, announced last week that he will not seek re-election in April of next year. Armenta was first elected as city clerk in April of 2002, then elected to the City Council in April of 2008.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve this community as an elected official for ten consecutive years,” Armenta said in a written statement. “Culver City has much to be proud of, and I am thankful to have been a part of the progressive and exciting projects taking place in this great community.”

The councilman cited his reasons for not seeking reelection, saying, “It is now time for me to focus on my professional and private life. I am very pleased with all that has been accomplished during my time as councilmember and mayor. Our city is fiscally strong. We have top notch city services and excellent city employees. Our development projects are innovative and community-friendly. I will leave office knowing that the city is in a good place and the future is bright. I am most grateful for the opportunity to work so closely with the community and have had the good fortune of working alongside intelligent and thoughtful colleagues.”

He thanked the community for its support and added, “In the meantime, I would encourage you to follow the upcoming elections closely and vote this April.”
