Community comes together

Letters to the Editor

Dear Lori,

Thank you so much for publishing the article about our yard sale to benefit the two young children of our friend who was on hospice for metastatic breast cancer.

The very next morning, a stranger showed up at our door with a newly crocheted quilt and card for Avery; she also stayed for an hour and a half to organize items for the yard sale.

The sad news is that Avery died that afternoon. The beautiful news is that the Culver City community came together the day after her death in an amazing display of support for her children.

Neighbors loaned us tables and shade covers; friends, acquaintances, and strangers contributed items to sell, including homemade gourmet key lime tarts. Many people who read the article stopped by to purchase items; some even came by not to shop but specifically to donate money.

With the blessings of the Culver City community we were able to raise much more than we expected for the children. On behalf of them, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Sincerely,

Stacey Peyer and Corinne Lightweaver
