Latin music group Cabrón James plays Boulevard Music this week, so band member Gustavo Bulgach told the News about what they have in store for Culver City…
When and how did you start playing, writing and performing?
[As per the biography]: Cabrón James is the explosive new Latin band born from the creative collision of two powerhouse artists: saxophonist and composer Gustavo Bulgach (Klezmer Juice, El Bulgui Union, Klezmer Arts Institute) and guitarist José Agote (Los Pinguos), one of the most electrifying new voices in rumba flamenca. Together, they’ve crafted a bold musical experience called “Cool Latin”—a sonic journey where traditional Latin soul meets the pulse of modern beat culture.
Describe your sound…
This project fuses original compositions with fresh, vibrant arrangements of beloved Latin classics, weaving together boleros, bossa novas, rumbas, Cha-Cha-Chá, and more. At its core, Cabron James is a celebration of the enchanting, sensual, and timeless sounds of Latin America—reborn for today’s ears… Get ready to Dance your Heart away!!!
What are your career highlights so far?
Cabrón James was “Officially” born in the beginning of 2026 when Jose asked me to show him my Original compositions and music that I liked from our beloved motherland Argentina. We both Like from Tango to Folklore tunes and everything in between. I am a big Fan of Gato Barbieri and this project focuses on continuing the Path he open for South American music, our contribution will be to make people ‘Dance” to our music as well. We want to get “Inside” of the listener and unite them all in music and Dance.
Do you have any recorded music available?
We just released “Cool Latin” on all digital platforms. First 7 tunes in a mix of originals and covers. We have recorded 25 tunes so far and are planning on releasing 2 songs a month starting on September.
Have you performed at Boulevard before? Any memories?
We have been performing at Boulevard Music for the last 10 years in different bands. We really love the venue and everything about it. We all live in the west side and Boulevard is one of the destinations for everything a musician needs, Including the Weekend shows.
What can we expect from the set this time?
The evening will be shared with Federico Ramos Trio, an amazing band from Uruguay lead by Freddy Ramos who, among many many other accomplishments he is the Guitar in the Disney megahit movies COCO and ENCANTO!!!! It will be the first time we play together back to back and would like to call the evening “Musica del Rio de la Plata” (Music from the River plate) which is the river that separates Argentina from Uruguay. I hope people will be encouraged by the music we will present and will come with open ears and open heart. It is an opportunity to keep expanding the musical horizons.
What else do you have coming up?
We have so many projects coming up. We do Educational presentations, shows for the elderly, Klezmer Gatherings, Latin Music Gatherings. We are currently working on Music for a Play and also for a Movie coming up in 2027. Freddy is recording already for COCO 2 and we got Weddings to play almost every weekend. More music will be recorded under Cabrón James until we reach 50 songs altogether.
Cabrón James and Freddy Ramos Trio perform at 8 p.m. on Saturday, August 1 at Boulevard Music. More info on the show at boulevardmusic.com.
