Bluesy, jazz-clectic outfit Bruce Garnitz Music performs at the Cinema Bar on Sunday afternoon, so Garnitz himself told the News about what they have in store for Culver City…

When did you start playing and performing? When did the band form?

Bruce Garnitz (Guitarist) and Jesse Pesina (Drummer) were friends for many years before starting “The Mighty Vornados” in 2017.

They both started performing at 11 and 12 years old in Chicago and San Antonio respectively in Junior High and High School Rock and Blues bands.  In 2023 Kenji Haroutunian (Bassist) joined the band and just this year Luca Zamora, Bruce’s former student joined the band as their new Drummer.

Describe your sound…

Our music  has been described as “Jazz-Clectic” with a strong Blues influence from Bruce’s early Chicago roots. Always deep in the groove, our character driven songs touch on the lighter to darker sides of life as we  take the listener on a musical journey of the joys, sorrows and absurdities of the world around us.

What are your career highlights so far?

In past years, Bruce could be seen playing in the Superdome in New Orleans and being featured during a Presidential National Convention and for other political events from Boston to Los Angeles.

Last year The Mighty Vornados flew to London to play the well known Camden club, Fiddler’s Elbow and then traveled to Liverpool to play the world famous Cavern Club where the Beatles were discovered. Bruce went on to Paris and played in various Paris venues. The Band is planning to go back to Europe next year!

What recorded music is available?

Our latest video of Bruce’s powerful song, “Enough Is Enough” is presently in the Finals for an award in the Talent Is Timeless Global Songwriting Competition.

It can be seen on Youtube and on his website:  https://brucegarnitz.com/singer-song-writer-epk/video

Have you performed at Cinema Bar before?

We’ve performed at the Cinema Bar many times! We have had some of our favorite singers and musicians sitting in with the band each time we’ve played at the Cinema Bar.  One of our favorite sessions was with guitarist/songwriter/producer and member of jackieO, Ira Ingber.

What can we expect from the set this time?

We’ve got quite a treat for everyone as we will featuring some special guests including Star Doby, one of Bruce’s former students playing Viola and Ursula Lara playing Guitar and singing.

Both Star and Ursula are featured on the “Enough Is Enough” Video. We also will have a Jazz Set by our group, The New Menchmen where we will feature Jesse Katz playing Upright Bass.

What else do you have coming up?

We are playing the international Pop Overthrow Festival on August 11th at the Redwood Bar in Downtown Los Angeles and are recording songs for a new album.

Bruce Garnitz Music performs at 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 19 at the Cinema Bar. Go to thecinemabar.com for more information about the venue.
