Rising pop-based singer-songwriter Archer Joy makes her Cinema Bar debut this week, so she told the News about what he has in store for Culver City…

When did you start playing and performing? When did the band form?

For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been a singer and performer (pretty much since I could talk). Starting guitar and upright bass lessons in middle school unlocked a new world for me, as I could finally bring the melodies I heard in my head to life and accompany myself for talent shows. In high school, I turned toward vocal performance, performing in venues around Cleveland, where I grew up, and even the Metropolitan Room in New York City. In college, I continued performing, playing in a symphony orchestra, singing in an a cappella group, and playing in a folk band.

Describe your sound…

I describe my sound as guitar-forward pop with a singer-songwriter sensibility. My music features lush arrangements, combines acoustic and electronic instruments, and features vulnerable storytelling.

What are your career highlights so far?

I would say the top contenders are getting a song I co-wrote and sang on placed on the TV show Tulsa King and getting to sing a duet with Kenny Loggins, accompanied by the Contemporary Orchestra, in which I was a member of the upright bass section, at Severance Hall in Cleveland seven years ago.

What recorded music is available?

I have four singles out and one feature, all of which can be found on the typical streaming services. The most recent release is “Clean My Room,” which is a sad anthem about finding small ways to reclaim power when life feels out of control or overwhelming.

Have you performed at Cinema Bar before?

I have not yet! This will be my first time and actually my first full-band solo show, so I’m very excited. The guitarist in my band suggested that we approach Cinema Bar to play there because it’s one of his favorite live music venues in L.A., so I went to check it out. I love how intimate the space is, and I’m beyond thrilled to get to play there with my amazing band mates.

What can we expect from the set this time?

I’ll be playing my released songs, as well as many favorites from the unreleased vault and previewing my next two singles. Expect some crowd pleasing covers too!

What else do you have coming up?

Right now, I’m focusing on putting the finishing touches on my next two singles, so stay tuned. Listeners can stay up to date through my Instagram @archerjoymusic, Spotify/Apple Music, and website!
