Apple to expand City’s presence

According to a report in Variety Magazine, Apple is looking to move the Culver Studios, as it continues to expand its Apple Video operation.

Both Variety and the Financial Times reported that Apple is seeking to lease space on the lot next to Sony Pictures on Washington Boulevard. Legendary producers such as David O. Selznick and Cecil B. DeMille have made their home at Culver Studios in the past.

In fact, the central mansion on the lot is very familiar to fans of “Gone With the Wind,” as well as many other movies.

Apple recently recruited former Sony TV executives Jamie Erlicht and Zack Van Amburg as the tech giants endeavor to vastly improve its original content division, in the wake of the level of success enjoyed in that department by the likes of Netflix and Amazon.

As things stand, Apple Video employees are working out of the Culver City campus that also houses Apple Beats By Dre Unit. But expansion is vital, as the ambition shown by Apple Video towards original programming has generated no small amount of buzz.
