Culver City High School continues to have one of the best athletic programs in Southern California and the 2025-26 season was one of the best seasons in school history.  Centaurs have 23 athletic teams and 21 of the teams made the CIF Playoffs. Not only did 21 teams make it to the big dance, two of the teams won the CIF Championship.

For the first time in school history boys’ volleyball and baseball won championships in May. Those two teams had to win five games in the playoffs to be able to call themselves CIF champions. That’s an incredible accomplishment because in the playoffs the intensity level is extremely high and the competition is super competitive.

In the fall the Centaurs fielded cross country, football, girls’ tennis, girls’ volleyball, boys’ water polo, and girls’ flag football.  The winter sports included girls’ basketball, boys’ basketball, girls’ soccer, boys’ soccer and girls’ water polo. In the spring Culver City had baseball, boys’ golf, girls’ golf, boys’ lacrosse, girls’ lacrosse, softball, boys’ swimming, tennis, girls’ track and field, boys’ track and field and boys’ volleyball.

With winning comes honors and the Centaurs boys’ volleyball team’s head coach, Jos Manzo was named CIF Division 6 Coach of the Year, and sophomore Mason Boyd was named CIF Division 6 Player of the Year. They also had two other players make the All-CIF Division 6 first team. They were senior Casey Brennan and sophomore Keanu Atianzar.

At press time the CIF office had not released the All-CIF baseball teams. That information will be in next week’s paper.

To win CIF championships it takes a lot of outstanding players but sometimes someone is singled out as the Player of the Year by their coaches and not the CIF office. For volleyball it is Ken Hasegawa and for baseball it’s Dawson Balthazar. According to his coach Hasegawa was the heart and soul of the team and the head baseball coach Devaughn Wallace said that Balthazar demonstrated true grit and courage as he battled back from a major injury and helped his team win a championship.

The Culver City News Coaches of the Year are Joe Manzo, boys’ volleyball and Devaughn Wallace for baseball. The Culver City News would like to congratulate all the many boys’ and girls’ athletes that competed for the 2025-26 teams.
