A blistering LA day turned into a balmy LA night, and I was lucky enough to spend it watching our very own Angel City take on the Denver Summit! I have watched them many times before in the supporter section. Always surrounded by the loud drums and chants of their most die-hard fans.
But this time was different. I got to watch from the press box as a kid reporter with KidScoop Media. At first, everything was calm and still in the media box, but then they slid open a wide window, and the huge wave of noise and excitement rushed in! I got to watch the insane 3-3 comeback draw while eating chicken and rice, popcorn, mini-churros, and my favorite peanut M&M’s. I even got to question some of the players and the coach after the game. Not a bad way to watch a soccer match!
The game was exciting for many reasons, but one really cool component was that it was Black Excellence Night. The halftime show was a fun, energetic performance by the Cardinal Divas of SC. With the music, lighting, and dancing, I felt like I was at a huge party.
But nothing compared to the excitement of the second half! Denver scored 2 goals within the first 2 minutes of the whistle and would go on to score another shortly after. Leading Angel City 3-1. But our team wasn’t done, as Prisca Chilufya said; they had the goal “to see how they can spoil their fun.” And spoil their fun they did, with Chilufya and Sentor each scoring goals to tie up the match!
After the game, I got to ask Prisca Chiufya a question about the game. She is so cool!
Phew, what a game! And what an experience I will never forget. Thank you to Angel City for putting on such a great performance, and thank you to KidScoopMedia for giving me this amazing opportunity.
