Church damaged in hit and run

A hit-and-run driver slammed into Culver City Seventh-day Adventist Church Dec. 31, causing what the congregation’s pastor called significant damage.

A silver sedan smashed into a wall of the building at 11828 W. Washington Blvd. around 12:30 a.m., according to Culver City police.

The driver then fled in the car, which was likely to have sustained serious damage, police said.

“It looks awful, there’s lot of damage,” said church pastor Jan Kaatz.

A gaping hole was visible in an exterior common wall that served two church offices and a men’s restroom, the pastor said.

“Our primary concern is cleanup, and making the rooms safe,” said Kaatz.

A damage estimate had not yet been made. The building has been undergoing renovation, according to the congregation’s website.
