The Los Angeles Rams, fresh off a 20-12 preseason opening win over the Kansas City Chiefs will take on the Saints on Saturday at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood at 1 p.m. The preseason is for players to try to impress the coaching staff that they are good enough to make the team.
One player that surprised and impressed coaches and fans was rookie quarterback Ty Simpson. The young player from the University of Alabama completed 21 of 25 passes for 190 yards and two touchdowns in his first NFL game. If he continues to play at that level in the preseason, he will be able to answer one of the biggest questions during the draft. Why did Los Angeles use the 13th pick of the recent draft on a player that was not considered to be in that category?
His first game showed why the rich sometimes get richer. The Rams are the current favorite to win the Super Bowl. Their starting quarterback, Matthew Stafford is the last year’s Most Valuable Player, and they appear to have talent at every position. Their back up players are also some of the bests in the NFL.
To make matters worse for other teams their former defensive player of the year Aaron Donald appears to be ready to make a comeback with his old team. If that happens, he will team up with another former defensive player of the year, the newly acquired Myles Garrett.
If the Rams can play better on special teams, something that hurt them last year, they will be a hard team to beat because they also have one of the best coaching staffs in the NFL led by head coach Sean McVay.
