Centaurs win 5 games en route to title
The Culver City High School baseball team took a page out of the Culver City High School boys volleyball team’s championship book and won a championship of their own. The volleyball team won the CIF championship on May 15, and the baseball team completed their own dream season last Saturday, beating Kaiser High School 9-8 in Rancho Cucamonga inside the stadium where the Rancho Cucamonga’s minor league baseball team, the Quakes play.
“It feels great,” said Culver City head coach Devaughn Wallace last Saturday after they won the CIF Championship. “It’s awesome. These guys have been working very hard, and they believed in the system since day 1. Nobody believed in us when we were 0-6-1 except people in our inner circle. These players came to practice every single day and worked hard.”
Wallace continued to talk about their incredible journey. “The believed in me and they believed in themselves and this is what happens. Baseball is fun. I just want the players to understand that they are better than they think they are.”
The Centaurs won five games in the CIF playoffs. They beat Valley Christian 8-6, St. Bonaventure 6-2, St. Bernard 11-6, Woodrow Wilson 4-3 before beating Kaiser in the championship game.
